The Direct Artist Payout program is an initiative we’re experimenting with to give artists access to a new payment stream thanks to your fans. Think of it as a fan club where you can rally your super fans to keep listening so you stay on top each month. And, in return, you discover new ways to continue keeping your community engaged – from content exclusives and other opportunities that are still on the drawing board it’s symbiotic! And we’re here to help define them with you.

We get that streaming royalties are an important revenue opportunity for artists. But, did you know that today artists are paid from a massive royalty “pool”, based on the aggregate listening patterns across all subscribers for the month? We think it’s time to relook at how these are calculated so you can finally earn what you deserve.
Fan-Centered Royalties were introduced in 2022 as part of our HiFi Plus tier. By basing royalty payouts on subscribers’ own monthly listening habits and issuing royalties on a pay-per-stream basis, we want to ensure that only their favorite artists and tracks are rewarded for their art. Oh, and did we mention we continue to pay significantly higher royalty rates to artists than the other streaming services?
All of this information will be visible in subscribers’ My Activity feed so they can see exactly how their streams add up month-to-month. We think transparency is key to creating a more fair and equitable industry for artists and fans. And, this is just the first step when it comes to users streaming data.

Don’t worry, we still think MQA and spatial are a big deal for our fellow music enthusiasts. That’s why we’re keeping that in the HiFi Plus tier where it belongs.

What do I gain by registering with TIDAL?
You will be able to participate in our Direct Artist Payouts program and collect payouts allocated from the number of subscribers on our HiFi Plus tier for whom you are the most streamed artist.
What music distributor partners is TIDAL working with today?
To date, TIDAL has partnered with CD Baby, DistroKid, STEM, Symphonic and TuneCore to facilitate payments to artists. We will soon be adding Equity Distribution and Vydia as options as well.
What if my music distributor is not an available partner?
